The area

The château sits 4.5 km from the centre of Biarritz, between the beaches of the Basque coast and the line of the Pyrenees. Les Halles de Biarritz open every day from 7.30 am to 2 pm. For guests who come early: a first surf lesson, the little train up La Rhune from Sare, or Bayonne, 8 km away, and Saint-Jean-de-Luz, 14.

How much does a wedding at the Château du Clair de Lune cost?

From €71,000, all-inclusive, for about 100 guests: the venue, the table, the flowers, the music, your photos, and us on site. The exact price depends on your date and your guest count, and you get it in writing within a week.

Can the price change?

Once you agree, no. It only changes if you change the wedding: more or fewer guests, or something you add along the way.

What if one of our suppliers can't make it?

We replace them. They're our suppliers, under our contract, so the two of you have nothing to search for or renegotiate. You approve the choice, and we take care of the rest.

Can we insure our wedding?

Yes, if you wish. We can offer optional cancellation insurance dedicated to your wedding, placed with Lloyd's. It covers cancelling or postponing for reasons beyond your control, including if one of you can't be there, as set out in the policy terms.

What if we booked the château directly?

You can, it's a lovely house. The château rents you its hall, its gardens, its pool and its 18 rooms, and opens its address book. You then bring together the caterer, the florist, the DJ, the photographer and the running of the day. With us, all of that is in your price, every choice stays yours, and the château keeps its own rate. You come to get married.

How many guests can we invite?

Up to 180 at the table in the Côté Terre hall, and 250 with its extension. From a small gathering to the big party, the place adapts. 18 rooms on site, and the others stay in Biarritz, 4.5 km away.

Which dates are still free?

Tell us your date, we check with the Château du Clair de Lune and reply in writing.

Can we have a secular ceremony on site?

Yes, in the park: under the century-old trees, facing the château, a few steps from the formal garden where the drinks follow. Your words, your officiant, your people around you.

Can we have our civil wedding in Biarritz?

In France, a civil wedding always takes place at a town hall, never at the château. Biarritz town hall can marry you if one of you, or one of your parents, lives there or has lived there for at least a month. Otherwise, the civil wedding happens in your own town, and the ceremony at the château.

Our guests are flying in. Is it easy for them?

Very: Biarritz airport is 3.5 km from the château, Biarritz station 2 km, the town centre 4.5 km. Someone greets the cars on the day, and we give you the best addresses around the château, ready to share with your loved ones.

How do our guests get back after the party?

The ones sleeping in the 18 rooms walk back through the park, the hunting lodge is 70 metres from the château. For the others, staying in Biarritz 4.5 km away, we give you the addresses, ready to share with your loved ones.

Where do we get ready?

At the château, in the first-floor rooms, or in the hunting lodge 70 metres away, whose rooms each have a private terrace. If you'd like to see each other before the ceremony, the château's stone staircase is a lovely place to meet.

And if it rains?

Dinner and the party are under cover in the Côté Terre hall, which has a covered 120 m² terrace. The drinks move into the château's salons, among the wood panelling and the piano.

Is the beach far?

3 km: the first beaches of the Basque coast are a few minutes from the château. The hotel works with several instructors who teach the basics of surfing, and more than ten golf courses lie within 15 minutes by car. Plenty for the day before and the day after.

Coming from abroad: how does it work?

Your contract is governed by French law, and also written in English.

Can we bring our own vendors?

Yes, and if you already have a vendor in mind, they're welcome. Your photos are included, with our photographers. If you already have yours, we welcome them into the team and adjust your price. For the table, the Côté Terre hall has its own caterer's kitchen, ready for the house we choose together.
